Surface Texture dialog box
Opens via: AMSURFSYM command
The Surface Texture dialog box allows you to set the default surface texture symbols for the current drafting standard.
The parameters entered for the surface texture will be stored temporarily and used as default values for the next surface texture setting.
The most recent revision of the standard to which this symbol conforms is displayed at the top of the dialog box.
The dialog box contains two main tabs, Symbol and Leader and text.

- Symbol
- Leader and text
Symbol
Specifies the surface texture characteristics. The available characteristics depend on the chosen drafting standard, ISO, DIN, ANSI, or JIS.

- Surface type
- Miscellaneous
- Requirement
- Surface type
- Allows you to choose one of the following surface types: Basic symbol, Material removal required, or Material removal prohibited.
- Miscellaneous
- Indicates which surface texture symbols are available for using.
- Force tail: shows the state of other surface texture symbols elsewhere in the drawing in parenthesis at the right side of the collective indication.
- Majority: shows the collective indication (that is a symbol common to all surfaces textures). This option is not available for the ANSI drafting standard.
- Requirement
- Defines the parameters of the surfaces textures.
- 4. Insert symbol
- Inserts a symbol from the drop down list into the selected parameter field.
- 5. Clear
- Clears the last inserted parameters. The cells will become empty.
- 6. Process note 1
- Defines the process requirements for the surface.
- 7. Process note 2
- Defines the process requirements for the surface. This option is not available for the drafting JIS and ANSI standards.
- 8. All around
- Toggles the visibility of the All Around symbol.
- 9. Machine allowance
- Specifies the machining allowance for the surface.
- 10. Direction of lay
- Sets the direction of lay for the surface.
- 11. First requirement
- Defines the first requirement for the surface.
- 12. Second requirement
- Defines the second requirement for the surface.
- 13. Third requirement
- Defines the third requirement for the surface.
Some more requirements are available only for ANSI drafting standard.

Additional Requirements:
- 14. Roughness average max
- Defines the maximum roughness average for the surface.
- 15. Roughness average min
- Defines the minimum roughness average for the surface.
- 16. Cutoff
- Defines the cutoff value for the surface.
- 17. Sampling length
- Defines the sampling length required for the surface.
- 18. Other roughness max
- Defines the maximum other roughness for the surface.
- 19. Other roughness min
- Defines the minimum other roughness for the surface.
Leader and text
Specifies the Leader and text characteristics.

- Leader
- Surface extension line
- Leader
- Sets the leader characteristics.
- Arrowhead
- Defines the default leader arrowhead type from the drop down list.
- Surface extension line
- Sets the surface extension line characteristics.
- Offset from object
- Defines the distance between the extension line’s start point and the attached object.
- Extension beyond leader
- Defines the distance between the symbol’s start point and the surface extension line’s end point.
